A restaurateur and an innovator for more than thirty years, Massimo Bottura has consolidated his reputation as one of the world’s most innovative culinary figures. In 1995, he opened his renowned three-Michelin-starred restaurant Osteria Francescana in his hometown Modena. Osteria Francescana was twice nominated number 1 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, in 2016 and in 2018. From his mother, grandmother, and aunt, who were all excellent cooks, he absorbed the best of Italian gastronomic heritage, which has represented the foundation of his culinary philosophy, combining tradition and innovation. His dishes have been exploring the deep roots of Italian cuisine while making references to history, art, music, literature, and philosophy, which he is very passionate about Today, in addition to leading several successful restaurant projects in Italy and abroad, he stands out also for his philanthropic work and fight against food waste globally, with his no-profit association Food for Soul. In recognition of his constant commitment, in 2020 Bottura has been appointed Goodwill Ambassador under the UN Environment Programme. The same year, Osteria Francescana was awarded with the new Michelin Green Star for its commitment against food waste and in favor of a more equitable and sustainable food system.
