Tvrtko Šakota is one of the greatest and most innovative Croatian chefs who, with his incredible talent and culinary masterpieces, has managed to raise Croatian gastronomy to a new, fascinating level. Šakota is a workaholic, a tireless researcher and creator, who seeks to push the boundaries. He is also uncompromising when it comes to the quality of ingredients whose origin and method of cultivation he has always paid great attention to. As a young chef he prepared vegetarian dishes in Makronova. In collaboration with chef Marin Medak he opened the best and only artisan butcher shop in Zagreb at the time where you could buy marinated meat in marinades created by Šakota. He worked as a chef in the Zagreb restaurant Xato, and in 2019 he opened the fine dining restaurant Nav in which, among other things, he continued with his unique vision and interpretation of Croatian cuisine and gastronomy in general. In Nav, Šakota is completely in his element; cooking the way he wants without sacrificing his beliefs and constantly deviating from known and accepted frameworks. The dishes he creates are a unique spectacle that draw repeat customers who are always hungry for new experiences. Among other things, Šakota has been bestowed with numerous recognitions and awards, the most recent is the title of 2021 Chef of the Year by Good Restaurants.
