Growing up in the very center of Zagreb (on the floral extension of Dolac:) during the early 1980s—a period when Zagreb, in my memory, was truly vibrant—I completed my elementary education at Kaptol and my secondary education at the 7th Gymnasium in Križanićeva. Living until the age of 18 within the heart of Zagreb, I consider myself a true child of Zagreb's asphalt, and I am an expert connoisseur of all its hidden and revealed courtyards, secret passages, archways, and local characters.
However, the 1990s brought their own atmosphere of discomfort and a certain fear for the future, but also personal maturation. Feeling very grown-up at 18, I went to Tel Aviv University to complete a preparatory year of studies in Israel, which involved intensive learning of the language, script, history, and culture of the country. That year in the Middle East, where I matured and grew up overnight, brought me many tears but even more experiences (including military), insights, knowledge, and friendships.
Nevertheless, nostalgia for Zagreb eventually decided my return, but with clear goals about what and where I wanted to be. In the following years in Zagreb, I studied, worked, and lived my best life, enrolling in graduate studies in economics, and in my early thirties, I "suddenly" became a mother. This led to a complete transformation of everything I had learned, from questioning myself and my corporate career in the pharmaceutical industry to the everyday things like "what are we eating and with what am I feeding my child?"
Looking back over the past 10 years, I realize that this little person (aka my son) was the reason for my first encounter with granola, my attempts and failures to serve him the best I could. Despite all the life's ups and downs that followed, nothing swayed me from achieving my dream of living and working daily creating what I love. And so, Morning Lab granola was born, my small fragrant granola manufacture that I had dreamed about for years. And the little person is not so little anymore (over 180 cm) 😉.
