Dubbed the godfather of modern cooking, Marco Pierre White is a renowned chef, restaurateur and TV personality. At 33 years old, Marco Pierre White became the first British and youngest chef at the time to be awarded three Michelin Stars. Variously hailed as the “the first celebrity chef” and the “enfant terrible” of the UK restaurant scene, Marco was the first of the rock ‘n roll chefs who inspired and trained notable chefs such as Heston Blumenthal, Gordon Ramsay and Jason Atherton. He has led the UK restaurant scene for over 30 years and ushered in a new wave of French classicism in British cooking. Marco’s imminent success began when, at the age of 19, he arrived in London with ‘£7.36, a box of books and a bag of clothes’ to begin his classical training as a commis with Albert and Michael Roux at Le Gavroche. He later went on to work with Raymond Blanc and Pierre Koffmann, both renowned for their French cooking techniques. In 1987, Marco opened Harveys, his first London restaurant. He was awarded his first Michelin star the following year and his second star in 1990. He won his third Michelin star in 1995 at The Restaurant Marco Pierre White in the Hyde Park Hotel London. By 1999 Marco had achieved everything a chef would endeavour to become and finally hung up his apron on 23rd December, retiring from the kitchen. Following retirement, Marco took time out to spend it with his family and enjoy his hobbies, fishing and shooting. Having become an icon, in 2007 Marco jumped back into the public eye with major TV roles in ITV’s Hell’s Kitchen, The Great British Menu and Australian Master Chef. Marco also features in the online subscription-based service BBC Maestro, a platform that lets people be inspired through courses taught by experts in their craft. These days, with eateries across the UK, Ireland and in Singapore, Marco is focused on delivering good, quality food at affordable prices. Brands include Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill, Marco’s New York Italian, Mr White’s English Chophouse, Wheeler’s of St James’s Oyster Bar & Grill, Bardolino Pizzeria Bellini & Espresso Bar and Marconi Coffee and Juice Bar. He also has a distinguished country house hotel which he also calls home, The Rudloe Arms located in the picturesque Box Valley near Bath.
